A. "Hi John and Sue, the Three Kings parade in Torrevieja starts at the Virgin del Carmen cultural center at 17:00 on Monday the 5th of January 2009. The procession will head towards Ramon Gallud (the main shopping street in Torrevieja) and will end up at the large church on the Plaza Del Constitution (the main square in Torrevieja). It’s normally a great occasion, so I hope that you manage to see it.

Q. "Hi, I am thinking about hiring a car at Alicante airport and driving to Torrevieja where we are staying. Can you tell me if it's a pretty straight forward route and if Torrevieja is sign posted from the airport? We are a bit worried we will get lost.

A. "Hello Lauren, There's 2 main ways of getting from Alicante airport to Torrevieja, the motorway, (the AP7) and the N332 coastal road, but the best route from Alicante airport to Torrevieja is easily the N332.
As you come out of the airport, ignore the blue signs for the motorway, and bear to your right, following the signs for Cartagena and the N332, then going past the signs for Santa Pola, Guardamar, La Mata and then you come to Torrevieja - it's very easy really.
The distance from Torrevieja to Alicante airport is about 45 kms and will take about 45 minutes.

Q.  "Any football in Torrevieja ?  I play football for one of the local football teams in the UK and I often wonder if it's possible for the team I play for, to go over to Torrevieja on holiday for a week, or perhaps a long weekend and combine a good game of football with the sunshine ?  Are there any football teams in Torrevieja, who don't take the game too seriously and would like a game against us ?  (and a few beers afterwards of course!!).

"Hi Steve, there's a good mate of mine in Torrevieja who's been organising friendly games of 7 a side football in Torrevieja every week for just over 8 years.  They're all English blokes and play on astro turf once a week on a weekday evening.  I know that they're always looking for football teams from the UK to play against them.
(They're also sometimes looking for more footballers aged 20-40, living in and around Torrevieja to join them).
They're a good, friendly bunch of blokes, with no moaners or ankle kickers in sight - what a refreshing change !
They also have social events for the players and their families during the year.
We brought our football team from the UK over a few years ago to play against them and had a great game.

A.  "Hi Melanie, That's an easy one, you'll find loads of good restaurants in Torrevieja, and we usually sample quite a few of them when we spend time in one of the holiday apartments in Torrevieja. Two extra special ones that come to mind is Nandos restaurant just by the Friday street market and El Muelle restaurant along the Torrevieja seafront. If I was pushed to make a choice of the two, I would go for Nandos, the quality of the food there is excellent. In fact, I organised a surprise dinner for my mother-in-law there a few months ago and she had a brilliant night.

A.  "Hello Paul, we often go to Torrevieja on holiday over Christmas and the new year, and usually most days except new years day, you will find restaurants and bars in Torrevieja to be open.  To be sure though, you could contact the bar owners on this link Bars in Torrevieja and on this link for the restauarant owners Restaurants in Torrevieja.
As far as the weather in Torrevieja is concerned, we've spent many winter holidays in Torrevieja, usually for a few weeks at a time, and have tried November, December, January and February, we found that it was sometimes warm enough during the day in November and December to sunbathe, but was a little chilly at night, and the coldest being January and February, (but still about 10 degrees warmer than the UK!!).  If it helps, there's a lot more information on the weather in Torrevieja on this link Weather in Torrevieja.

A.  "Over the last couple of years of staying in Torrevieja, (in one of the holiday apartments in Torrevieja, by the beach at Los Locos), we've seen that most, (although, not all) of the supermarkets in Torrevieja stock pampers nappies.
Also, I can't remember the name of it now, but the Spanish supermarkets do stock full fat milk, again, not all, but most will stock it.

"Hi Rose, we always take our kids to the big sports centre on the outskirts of Torrevieja, by Aquas Nuevas, can't remember the exact name of it, but think it's something like Palacios del Esportes. It's fairly easy to find, if you're coming from the direction of La Mata towards Torrevieja, along the N332 road, as you get to Aguas Nuevas, you'll see a small roundabout with a giant needle type plinth in the middle of the roundabout, turn right at that roundabout, go along a few 100 yards, and you'll see the sports centre on the left. In fact, for the summer, we always carry on along the road where the sports centre is, down to the T-junction at the end, turn left and the water park in Torrevieja is just a few 100 yards along on the right, brilliant place for the kids. A. "I know that there is a large indoor swimming pool at the sports centre in Torrevieja. From Torrevieja town, take the Avenida de Cortes Valencianas (often called the old Alicante road) towards Alicante. Towards the top of this road you will see a roundabout that has a very tall 'needle’ in the middle of it. Take the left turn (third exit from memory) and the sports center is on the left. From the Alicante direction you would travel on the N332 past Guadamar and La Mata towards Torrevieja. There is a roundabout with the XU Palace restaurant on the left hand side (this is a large Chinese restaurant that is attached to an apartment block called Edificio Nautico). After going straight across this roundabout, take the right hand fork, go straight on at the next two roundabouts and at the 3rd, this is the one that has a very tall 'needle’ in the middle of it, turn right, and the sports center is on the left.

We find the main sports centre in Torrevieja to be excellent for this, but your best bet, to find out about all of the facilities for tennis in Torrevieja, is to call Steve Durie, the local tennis coach - (a very helpful guy), on (0034) 635 061 439.

A.  "Hi Mike, On the maps I have with me in the UK, I can't see any mention of a road by that name, but I do know that there's been a lot of new buildings and new roads in Aquas Nueveas, so it's possible that it might be a new road.
I usually go on holiday to Aquas Nuevas, (between La Mata and Torrevieja), every couple of years, and my most most recent map was bought there 2 years ago, so if it's a recent road, it won't be on my map I'm afraid.
The nearest spelling of that word, that I can find on my map is Calle Muro, but that's in San Luis, on the outskirts of Torrevieja.
Are you definitely sure about the spelling ?
By the way, I think the first word is Calle

A.  "Hello Kim, on our previous holidays in Torrevieja over the past few years from mid October until mid November, we've seen most of the big supermarkets, like Mercadona, Carrefour, etc all close on All Saints Day, but have never come across any celebrations on All Saints Day - quite a few of the restaurants in Torrevieja will still be open though.

A.  "Hi Barbara, the average Spanish person celebrates their Christmas on 3 Kings day (the 6th of January), so generally, you should find 'most' shops, bars and restaurants in Torrevieja will be open on Boxing day.

A. "Hello Kim, Yep, they also sell Burgers and ice cream ! !  Seriously though, you can bring your own picnic cool box into the water park, no problem at all. The holiday apartment in La Mata we usually book, always has a cool box with a few much-needed ice blocks, so we always use that, but if your rental property hasn't got one, most of the supermarkets in Torrevieja (or La Mata) do them..

"Hello Melinda, There's an excellent sports centre in Torrevieja, called the Palacio de los Deportes 'Infanta Cristina', which we go to every year when we stay in one of the holiday rentals in Las Mata and even though we go there for the swimming, I've often seen people around there with tennis rackets, and bearing in mind that tennis in Spain is very popular, just go along there and ask when you can play and I don't think you'll have a problem playing tennis in Torrevieja.

A.  "Hi Janet, Well this depends. Yes for some and no for others. The main international restaurants remain open as normal, but you may find that some of the small bars close on the Fiesta days, which are Thursday, Friday, Sunday and Monday. Easter is a great time to be in Spain with all of the colourful parades. Bus routes from Alicante airport to Torrevieja ?

A. "Hi Robert, surprisingly, bearing in mind the large numbers of people who would find it very useful to be able to get a bus from Alicante airport to Torrevieja, there isn't one!!!  There's no direct bus route from Alicante airport to Torrevieja.
I've tried a few times, but you have to get a bus from Alicante airport to Alicante town, then get a bus to Torrevieja from Alicante town. Not easy and does take quite a while, not only for the actual travelling time, but for waiting at bus stops as well.
I now get one of the taxis from Alicante airport, or hire a car!!

A.  "Hello Sue and Jim, The bus's in Torrevieja are very good, reliable, clean and inexpensive. There's bus's that go all along the beachfront at Playa Los Locos, don't know exact timings, but normally every 20-30 minutes.
Or, you could go to the main bus station in Torrevieja, just by the Friday market in Torrevieja - the staff at the bus station are usually very helpful.

Both processions go through the central streets of Torrevieja, including going past the main Church square in Torrevieja. A. “Hi Sue, the Torrevieja carnivals will be on Sunday the 7th of February at 16:00 and Saturday February the 13th at 22.00. The parades leave from Calle Patricio Pérez and then go down Calle Ramon Gallud (the main street in Torrevieja town centre with all the shops), and passes the big square with the town hall and church on it. There will be loads of seats at the roadside to hire for the duration of the carnival, and in the past there has been a charge (about 4 euros I think), but it’s a long parade and worth paying to get a good and more comfortable view, so get there early, so you can get a seat. I agree with Jill, it definitely shouldn’t be missed, and the flights are cheap at this time of year!

A.  "Hi Karen, The bars and shops are generally open as normal, apart from Christmas day and New Years day, so you'll not be short of some retail therapy!!!
Christmas celebrations in Torrevieja town are quite different to a large town in the UK, as they are centered around the family and so tend to happen behind closed doors.
New Year celebrations in Torrevieja town, are usually held at the main Church square, where everyone waits for the church beel to chime for the time at midnight, drinking their champagne, eating grapes and shaking hands and hugging everyone in sight and if you are looking for a little of the UK type entertainment you will normally find a warm and friendly welcome at the British and Irish owned establishments in the more residential areas for example Aguas Nuevas. If you're wanting to go to the one of the Christmas Eve, Christmas Day or New Years Eve events at one of the local bars or restaurants I would recommend booking in advance if you can. But to narrow down your search I have heard that The Harp Irish Bar and The Bull and Bush, both of which are in Aguas Nuevas, Torrevieja, are good places to be for fun, good food and a party atmosphere. Or if you venture to La Mata, people speak highly of Domino bar and restaurant too. In Spain, as in the UK, it is worth booking early to avoid disappointment, so get booking and Happy Christmas!

A.  "I heard that concert was really good, I missed it but I did see the Shakira concert in Torrevieja earlier in the year. There have been a couple of big Spanish bands appearing in the Torrevieja concerts, but nobody that I knew. A.  "You could take the CV 905 from Torrevieja north towards the AP7 motorway, because the CV 905 has a cycle path, from here you could explore some of the other small towns and villages.

A.  "Another suggestion would be the Paseo del Dique de Levante or Eastern Dock Promenade. It's the Eastern breakwater and is 1,355 meters long. It goes all the way out to a lighthouse, and provides a spectacular panoramic viewpoint. There is a cycle lane underneath this super promenade.

A.  "There's never a fixed date for the inauguration of the 'Belen' (Christmas Nativity) in Torrevieja, but they usually start work on it around the first week of December.  During recent years it has been on public display from around the 12th to 15th December. This year, Torrevieja will be holding the annual 'Christmas Carols in English' in the main Church square on the evening of Friday 14th December. The 'Belen' will probably be on display then.
The Nativity display in Torrevieja is always worth seeing, it's all put together brilliantly, and the attention to the smallest detail is incredible.
We often have our winter holidays in Torrevieja to also include Christmas, as it's a great atmosphere there at that time of the year, (it's also great to get away from the UK weather as well!!!!).

A.  "You can get a boat from Torrevieja Harbour (full day trip) to a local island called 'Tabarca'. This is a fantastic snorkelling area. You can get a bus from La Mata into Torrevieja which drops you off right by the harbour where you can pick the boat up. I believe the boats run in the summer at 11.00hrs and returning 18.00hrs (every day except Friday).

A.  "Hello Paul, I don't know the answers to the other questions on Torrevieja you have, and you may get other ideas on this, but I'm fairly sure that the tower that gives Torrevieja it's name is on the border between La Mata and Torrevieja.  On the way to La Mata from Torrevieja, go along the coastal road, and when you get to the bend in the road that goes to left at Cabo Cevera, you will see the old tower just on the right.  You probably know this already Paul, but for those who don't know the translation of this, Torre means tower and old means vieja = Torrevieja.  The words go the other way around in Spain, so in England, you would say Old tower, but in Spain, it would be Tower old!

A. "Hi Rosemarie, Wow, you're thinking ahead!!
The Three Kings parade is normally an evening event and tends to be scheduled to begin between 20:00 and 21:00. It's traditional route takes it down a street called Ramon Gallud, which is the main shopping street in Torrevieja, and, as you rightly said, it goes past the main town square. The Town Hall square, being that it is stepped, can be a good place to stand as you can get a height advantage on other locations, however, everyone else thinks this too, so you may need to get your position nice and early so as not to be disappointed. If you prefer you can sit at the very edge of the parade on the chairs that line the street, but the town hall do charge approximately 4 euros for the privilege. Having said all that, things do change, so please keep an eye on the website for any updates on this information.
In the way of areas to stay in, I would recommend La Mata more than Torrevieja centre itself, as it is only 5 - 10 minutes drive away and a bit more peaceful. The Spanish celebrations tend to be traditionally noisy and go on late into the night, and you may not want this to be imposed on you every night!

We just went to the main Church square in Torrevieja about 11pm and saw the 3 Kings come past the Church square, well worth seeing. As for parking, we just parked on the outskirts of Torrevieja and walked the little way in.

A. "Hi Chloe, The water park in Torrevieja is absolutely great for children of all ages.
When we went last summer, our children were 2, 7, 11 and 16 and they've all been begging me to go back there again, (which we will do as we go to Torrevieja every year on holiday).
We were there from opening time to closing time, and the kids were busy doing fun stuff all day long.
There's lots to do there for kids of all ages.
To keep costs down a bit, you can bring your own food and drink, which is what we did.

A. "Hi Kelly, I recently spent my first holiday in Torrevieja in April, and it was absolutely fantastic. Because I'm so used to the English weather in the UK, I bought long trousers and jumpers, but had no need for any of that!!  It was t-shirts and shorts all the time. On a couple of days it was a little chilly in the morning, but by the time 10am arrived it was back to the normal warm sunshine again!
We spent 16 nights there last time and hope to spend another holiday there in another apartment rental soon, hopefully for 3 weeks the next time!

A. "Hi Linda. I spent last November in Torrevieja to escape from the dark, cold and damp England. I can tell you from first hand experience that, the majority of the time, it was bright, sunny and warm. During the day the temperatures in the sun were still up to the mid 20’s, so T-shirts were the order of the day. It was nippy, in comparison, at night and first thing in the morning, but, from memory, averaged approximately 12-14 degrees at night (I would recommend a fleece or coat for first thing in the morning and evenings/nights). I was happy with this Spanish night time low as it was still a few degrees higher then the UK mid day high!!! Have a lovely holiday, wish I was going now, but I have to wait until January for my next holiday to Torrevieja. I always spend the whole of every January in one of the holiday rentals in Torrevieja, it works out cheaper than living in the UK for the month and a heck of a lot warmer as well!!.

A.  "Hello Claire, There's quite a few small childrens play parks in Torrevieja, as soon as you walk around the backstreets for a few minutes, you'll see the parks every few miles or so, but easily, the best park for children is the park of nations, also known as Parque de las Naciones, this is a very large park, with swings, slides, lakes where the ducks and geese are waiting for your children to feed them!!
Also, in the same park of nations, there's a boat ride (although I think this could only be in summer) along the lake.  In another part of the park, there's a section for rabbits, squirrels, lizards etc.
We've been going to a holiday apartment in Torrevieja every year for the last 6 years with our two kids and it's great because the apartment we stay in is in Calla Villamadrid, (or maybe it's Calle Villa Madrid, I can't remember for sure at the moment), just a few 100 yards from the park, so it's been great for taking the kids to this park, plus, the Torrevieja water park is easily walkable from this spot.

A. "Hi Darren, there's quite a few holiday rentals in Torrevieja, just a case of looking around on the internet, or perhaps looking around on this website for ideas. There's a fair bit of choice. When I go back to Torrevieja every year on holiday, I tend to stay in one of the holiday apartments by the Park of Nations, which is an excellent spot.

A.  "Hi Sue, You don't say which part of Torrevieja you're coming from, and I don't know which parts of Torrevieja you know, but hope these directions to the Habaneras shopping centre can help you.  If you were at the Parque de las Naciones, (park of nations), and went to the part that was the nearest to the Torrevieja street market, ok so far ?  Right then, if you were standing on the pavement outside the park and facing the location for the street market, you will see a fairly busy road in front of you, you will know if you're looking in the right direction, if, when you look across the road and to the left, you should see a very large office block named Tabisam, just walk to your left along the side of this road, go over the next roundabout, passing the petrol station on your left and you'll see the Habaneras shopping center a few 100 yards down on the right, just before the gigantic Carrefour supermarket.  I spend one month a year in holiday apartments in Torrevieja and always try to get along to the Habaneras or Carefour for shopping whenever I'm there.  (The Torrevieja aqua park is a few minutes walk behind the Habaneras shopping centre).  Hope these directions are ok for you Sue, please let us know if they were ok!!

A.  "Hi Marion, One of the best restaurants in Torrevieja for seafood and shellfish is El Pescador, the sea bass in there is really tasty and the lobster and prawns are brilliant.  In the 8 years that we've been going to Torrevieja on holiday, we've always had a meal in El Pescador every year and it's always been a good meal.  Definitely one of the best seafood restaurants in Torrevieja.
Can't help on the Geordie bar in Torrevieja for Newcastle United fans, as I'm not a football fan, but perhaps someone else looking on this page can help you with that one!!

A.  "Hello Andy, I've been going on holiday to Torrevieja every year for a few years and although in that time, I have seen a few windsurfers in Torrevieja, I have a feeling that windsurfing in Torrevieja may not be very mainstream, but I have seen a big group of about 15-20 windsurfers on the section of the sea between La Mata and Guardamar, usually Sunday afternoons, and very often in the cooler months for the Costa Blanca, between October to May.
