Torrevieja Information

Directed by Gordon Higginbottom, Just Brass is the only Brass Band on the Costa Blanca. Though essentially a Brass Band, Just Brass has extended traditional boundaries to perform a wide variety of music, with the accent on entertainment. To this aim, much of its repertoire is specially composed or arranged for them, and the whole show is linked together superbly, by their resident compere/comedian Ian Gibson, who is also the band's leader.

Based in San Miguel de Salinas, Just Brass is generously supported by the Ayuntamiento.

Just Brass is an extremely sociable organisation, and visitors are always welcome to attend the rehearsals in the town's Casa de Cultura on Thursdays at 1600. Many UK musicians on holiday do exactly that, as did the renowned Derek Broadbent, arranger of The Floral Dance (remember Terry Wogan's singing?). During his visit he presented Just Brass with his latest composition appropriately named 'San Miguel'.

Comfortable in performing at all types of venues, from grand Concert Halls to private functions, Church and Town Festivals to Garden parties, Just Brass always carefully tailors its programme to suit the occasion.

Charity work is an important part of its constitution, having adopted the Lions Club as its chosen cause.

GORDON HIGGINBOTTOM
(Musical Director)

Vastly experienced, and a musician of the highest standard. Gordon has appeared as soloist in more than 20 countries, including America, Japan, Pakistan, Mexico and Australia.

He has countless TV and Radio broadcasts to his credit, and as a session musician, many commercial recordings and film tracks ( e.g. Evita, with Madonna).

Formerly principal Horn of The National Band, The Virtuosi Brass Band of Gt. Britain, Harry Mortimer All Stars and the James Shepherd Versatile Brass, Gordon has also performed with other famous bands such as Black Dyke, and Grimethorpe Colliery.

As an Educator, Gordon was formerly a Professor at London College of Music, a tutor at Leeds College of Music, Salford College and The Royal Northern College of Music, where he is now an external examiner.

In 1998 Gordon was awarded an English Masters Award at Cambridge.
